After 18 years working in Professional practice as a Commercial Real Estate Valuer in Leeds, Fiona took up her current post as a Lecturer in Real Estate at Aberdeen University in 2018. She remains strongly committed to the RICS; as a long standing RICS Assessor, Chairperson and Auditor for the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and in 2024 she was appointed as one of the nine RICS Global Principal Assessors.
The role provides insight to entry and assessment policy; developing and delivering assessor training for the next generation of RICS assessors, including standardisation requirements and events; and facilitating debate and discussion within the assessor community to support best practice. As subject matter experts for pathways to assessment, Principal Assessors will also have a key role in the RICS entry and assessments review process.
After mentoring many graduates during her time in practice, she aims to develop courses that bridge the gap between academic and professional practice and allow students to apply theory and methodology effectively. Fiona continues to mentor APC candidates often presenting at MATRICS events (a sub section of RICS for graduates) as they begin their Assessment of Professional competence (APC) to become Chartered Surveyors.
